ABOUT US
Parma Dog Park Now
We are continuing our campaign to create a dog park in the city of Parma. Our latest updates include:
-
April 2015, Mayor Tim DeGeeter offically gave his approval to make it a reality.
-
We are working with the city leaders to identify the best available spot.
-
Fundraising: Due to budgetary restrictions the city of Parma will not be able to fund the project.
-
PADPA is confident that we can fund the development of the dog park.
-
We are aware that this would be a great benefit to the city and many dog guardians would love this addition.
-
To make it happen we need the community's support.

Parma Dog Park History
In 2005, Parma Councilman Nicholas Celebrezze introduced Ordinance 55-05, co-sponsored by Council representatives Sean Brennan, Brian Day, Larry Napoli, and Mary Galinas, to establish the city's first dog park. However, due to limited funds, Council did not pass the ordinance.
In 2011, Parma became Ohio's first Animal Guardian Community, meaning the term animal "owner" would be replaced by "owner/guardian" in it's animal-related ordinances.
In 2012, in response to the closure of an unsanctioned dog park at West 54th Street and Snow Road, action was taken by four Parma area residents - Katie Liepold, Stefan P. Stefaniuk, Brandon Yanak, and Barb Forestall, with the support of then-Councilwoman Mary Galinas - to establish the Parma Area Dog Park Association (PADPA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
PADPA's overarching intent was to form a positive ongoing partnership with the City of Parma to establish the city's first off-leash dog park. There has been an outpouring of support from area residents who currently travel a half-hour or more to visit dog parks in other cities.
As most Parma area residents already know, Parma, Ohio, the seventh largest city in the state and Cleveland's largest suburb, is well-known for being a safe, attractive community while offering plentiful services and modern amenities for its 82,000 residents. New developments include the exciting transformation of Parmatown Mall, two of the largest new libraries in the top-rated Cuyahoga County County Library system, an excellent school district, numerous parks, and so much more.
So, why not a dog park?
We believe Parma residents deserve a city dog park and will continue our effort to help make a Parma Dog Park a reality! Our ongoing partnership with the City of Parma to keep #MovingParmaForward will ensure that our community always remains one we can be proud of for generations to come!
